Innovative Packaging: A Step Towards Green and Low-Carbon Development

Recently, the China Packaging Federation, the China Standardization Institute, and the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology's CCID Research Institute jointly released the "Green and Low-Carbon Development Blue Book for the Packaging Industry 2023." This comprehensive report sheds light on the green development journey of the packaging industry, sharing valuable insights and experiences on sustainable and low-carbon practices.

Prominent among the green initiatives is Procter & Gamble's e-commerce direct delivery packaging of Corrugated Line, known as "Little Green Treasure," and the single-material lightweight integrated e-commerce packaging called "Air Capsule." Additionally, Yili Gold Standard's unprinted sustainable packaging for its organic milk stands out as a pioneering example of sustainable packaging.

Little Green Treasure: A Leap in E-commerce Packaging

Developed by Procter & Gamble, the "Little Green Treasure" is a testament to innovative packaging. Designed compactly and simply, keeping in mind the characteristics of the products inside of Corrugated Line , it not only ensures effective protection but also significantly reduces or eliminates the use of secondary packaging materials. This includes materials like pearl cotton protective sleeves, bubble wrap, air pillow bags, air column bags, express boxes, and transportation packaging boxes.

By focusing on such innovative packaging solutions, the industry is making significant strides towards a greener and more sustainable future.

The Efficiency and Sustainability of "Little Green Treasure" in E-commerce

Once the "Little Green Treasure" packaging arrives at e-commerce platforms, it can be directly labeled and shipped to consumers without the need for repackaging. This not only saves on packaging costs but also enhances the efficiency of the shipping process. Thanks to the adoption of this packaging solution, Procter & Gamble alone has managed to save over 10,000 tons of paper annually, resulting in a 30% reduction in packaging costs across the entire e-commerce supply chain.

For consumers, the benefits are evident. Comparing before and after the implementation of the "Little Green Treasure," there has been a 70% reduction in complaints related to packaging damage. For logistics and courier companies, there's a notable decrease of over 30% in the volume of shipments and courier parcels. E-commerce platforms, on the other hand, have experienced a significant simplification in warehouse operations, doubling the efficiency of e-commerce warehouse shipments. This innovative packaging solution of Corrugated Line has garnered unanimous approval from major e-commerce platforms, including JD.com, Tmall, Maotai, and Suning.

Air Capsule: A Revolutionary Single-Material E-commerce Packaging Solution

In 2021, Procter & Gamble pioneered a green innovation in e-commerce packaging, introducing the "Air Capsule." This packaging stands out as China's first express packaging to receive the "Double Easy" certification, being made from 100% single recyclable material. While catering to consumers' packaging functionality needs and enhancing their experience, it achieves recyclability and renewability for plastic express packaging.

The entire packaging design of Single Facer and Slitting Blades incorporates an integrated sealing mechanism with a tear strip, eliminating the need for fillers, outer cartons, or adhesive tapes for splicer. Leveraging air-a cost-free and waste-free resource-as its core protective element, the Air Capsule replaces the traditional combination of cardboard boxes with fillers. This not only enhances its compression resistance but also results in a 40% reduction in weight.

Furthermore, Procter & Gamble's innovative research led to the development of a 100% single recyclable material that provides air barrier properties for a specific duration, catering to the cushioning protection requirements of express transportation. This innovation sets a precedent in the courier industry, promoting the use of single materials over traditional composite plastic materials for cushioning protection. It paves the way for greener, lighter, and 100% recyclable express packaging solutions.
